In my years of experience as a secondary school teacher and private tutor, I’ve found that many students feel nervous about their Spanish Speaking GCSE Exams.
For most, it feels strange speaking a foreign language in front of an examiner. However, my advice would be to relax and enjoy the experience, you’ve made it this far, and believe me, you can probably speak quite a lot of Spanish by now!
The Spanish Speaking GCSE Exam consists in three parts:
- The first one is role play.
- The second one is the photo card.
- The third and last one is the general conversation (two different topics). During this exercise the pupil will be able to choose one of the topics and the second one will be chosen by the examiner.
How do I prepare for the Spanish Speaking GCSE Exam?
The golden rule to pass the Spanish Speaking Exam is to revise the vocabulary which appear in the main topics:
- Identity and culture.
- Local area, holiday and travel.
- School.
- Future aspirations, study and work.
- International and global dimension.
Don’t forget to use connectives, always give opinions and reasons, use plenty of adjectives, adverbs of time, negatives, and intensifiers.
Finally, is it worth getting a tutor for the Spanish Speaking GCSE exam?
The simple answer is yes. In schools, teachers don’t have the time to sit with students individually in a weekly basis to practice speaking skills and correcting mistakes. Therefore, a tutor would be very beneficial to increase pupils’ oral skills and confidence. Moreover, tutors know the exam inside out, and can help pupils achieve good grades by tackling the key issues during the lessons.
